换只眼睛看长城——中国西部雷达长城影像

最近找到一张雷达长城影像,给大家欣赏,不知道有没有人贴过。
图像来自NASA的JPL(喷气推进实验室),英文网页在此:

These radar images show two segments of the Great Wall of China in a desert region of north-central China, about 700 kilometers (434 miles) west of Beijing. The wall appears as a thin orange band, running from the top to the bottom of the left image, and from the middle upper-left to the lower-right of the right image.
这两张雷达图像显示了中国长城在中国中北部荒漠地区的两段城墙,在北京西部方向距离北京约700公里。城墙在图像上呈现细的橙色带,在左边图像上是从上到下,在右边图像上是从左上角到右下角。
These segments of the Great Wall were constructed in the 15th century, during the Ming Dynasty. The wall is between 5 and 8 meters high (16 to 26 feet) in these areas. The entire wall is about 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles) long and about 150 kilometers (93 miles) of the wall appear in these two images.
这段城墙建设于15世纪的明朝。城墙有5到8米高。整个长城有3000公里长,在这两张图像上的部分大约是150公里长。
The wall is easily detected from space by radar because its steep, smooth sides provide a prominent surface for reflection of the radar beam. Near the center of the left image, two dry lake beds have been developed for salt extraction. Rectangular patterns in both images indicate agricultural development, primarily wheat fields.

The images were acquired by the Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR) onboard the space shuttle Endeavour on April 10, 1994. SIR-C/X-SAR, a joint mission of the German, Italian and the United States space agencies, is part of NASA\'s Mission to Planet Earth.

The left image is centered at 37.7 degrees North latitude and 107.5 degrees East longitude. The right image is centered at 37.5 degrees North latitude and 108.1 degrees East longitude. North is toward the upper right. Each area shown measures 25 kilometers by 75 kilometers (15.5 miles by 45.5 miles).
左侧图像的中心点位于北纬37.7度、东经107.5度。右侧图像位于北纬37.5度、东经108.1度。北向为右上(该图不是正南正北的——译者注)。每张图像覆盖范围为25公里乘以75公里。
The colors in the image are assigned to different frequencies and polarizations of the radar as follows: red is L- band horizontally transmitted, horizontally received; green is L- band horizontally transmitted, vertically received; blue is C-band horizontally transmitted, vertically received.
图像上的颜色被分配给不同的雷达波段及极化方式:红色是L波段水平发射、水平接收;绿色是L波段水平发射、竖直接收;蓝色是C波段水平发射、竖直接收。
Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C and X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR) is part of NASA\'s Mission to Planet Earth. The radars illuminate Earth with microwaves allowing detailed observations at any time, regardless of weather or sunlight conditions. SIR-C/X-SAR uses three microwave wavelengths: L-band (24 cm), C-band (6 cm) and X-band (3 cm).
空间成像雷达—C/X波段合成孔径雷达(SIR-C/X-SAR)是NASA的PLANET EARTH项目的一部分。雷达使用微波照射地球进行科学观察,这种观察不受天气及日光的影响。SIR-C/X-SAR使用了三个微波波长:L波段(波长24厘米),C波段(波长6厘米)及X波段(波长3厘米)。
The multi-frequency data will be used by the international scientific community to better understand the global environment and how it is changing. The SIR-C/X-SAR data, complemented by aircraft and ground studies, will give scientists clearer insights into those environmental changes which are caused by nature and those changes which are induced by human activity.
这些多频率的数据将被国际科学界用于更好地了解全球环境及其变化。SIR-C/X-SAR数据,加上航空及地面研究,将辅助科学家更好地了解由于自然因素所造成的环境变化和由于人类活动作造成的环境变化。

经过查找有关地图,左边的图像位于宁夏盐池县城和陕西定边镇之间(见图一),右侧的图像位于陕西省安边镇附近(见图二),两张图基本上是挨着的。
在左边的图像清晰版上,可以看出长城似乎不只是一道,经过网上搜寻,果然盐池县的长城有好几道,具体的介绍请参考中央人民广播电台《你好台湾》网站上的介绍:

另外我觉得英文原文的图像大小搞错了,其实图像应该是长三十公里左右,没有75公里,我从几张GPS地图上验证过了。由此推断那张19MB的像图上的图像分辨率是10米左右。
其他的分析我我还没有来得及作,希望有去过那里的大侠提供进一步的实地考察信息。谢谢!
